Services and Prices

Please contact hello@shewhoedits.com to book services!

  1. Optional Consultation: If you have time, we can schedule a 30-minute consultation  via Zoom or phone call to establish your writing goals, what you are looking for in an editor, and to get to know each other!
  2. Free Sample Edit: Following the consultation, I will provide a sample edit for the first 1,500 words. This will include line editing, copy editing, and proofreading. If you are interested in developmental editing as well, I will provide constructive feedback based on the strengths and weaknesses of the 1,500 words that are being edited.
  3. Schedule: Once the complimentary sample edit is complete, the author may review my work so that they are able to get a better understanding of my editing process, style, and the type of suggestions that I will provide. Of course, I am always open to making adjustments to my editing style to best fit your preferences and needs. When you have made a decision on what editing services you would like to move forward with, we can discuss setting a timeline for your project.

Message me on Instagram at @_shewhoedits_ or email hello@shewhoedits.com to request this service.

Services Include:

  • Round #1: Developmental Editing

    The author makes revisions.

  • Round #2: Line Editing, Copy Editing, and Proofreading

    The author makes revisions.

  • Round #3: Copy Editing and Proofreading

Additional Benefits:

  • Unlimited brainstorming sessions for upcoming chapters regarding character development, concerns about plot holes, help with expanding your creative ideas, or any other questions that might help you sway from that dreadful writer's block.
  • Blurb writing and editing assistance.
  • I will continuously update you with constructive feedback after every five chapters (or whatever we agree on) that you have approved for me to go and edit. The overall goal is to continue to strengthen your writing, and I am here to help guide and support you as we explore options that could improve areas of your writing that you may not have known could be beneficial. My feedback will be based on the goals that we have set at the beginning of the editing process and will include suggestions based on the consistency of the structure, plot, voice, dialogue, timeline of the story's events, and anything else that arises.
  • I only charge for the word count of the body of the manuscript. I do not charge for the word count dedication, author's note, acknowledgements, playlists, triggers/content warnings, etc.
  • I will be available to respond via text message within one hour, or we can speak on the phone if you find that it is easier for us to communicate and brainstorm any ideas or problems that may be a concern. I know that some authors' writing schedules vary, and when you are in the "zone," it can be hard to stop and wait for a response, which is why I try to be accessible and respond in a timely manner. I want to make sure that you are able to work out any kinks that may come your way when it is convenient for you.
  • I am always available to answer any questions or concerns, both during and after services have been completed. I am here to help you if you need anything!
  • In case you ever get stuck in a rut and need reassurance that you are indeed an amazing writer, I am always here to build you up, remind you of all the great qualities and strengths in your writing, and give you all of the positive affirmations that you deserve. I feel that it is important that you never doubt your writing abilities, so I will always have your back.

Final Revision

Do you like morally gray edits as much as you like morally gray characters? Let’s search for those red flags one last time before it is too late!

Edits will improve the following:

  • Grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.

Price: $0.005

First Draft Overview (Editorial Assessment Included)

Process:

  • Read and assess the full manuscript for strengths and weaknesses.
  • Check for inconsistencies in the story’s timeline, plot, themes, voice, style, characters, tone, structure, and dialogue.
  • Provide detailed, thoughtful, and constructive feedback.
  • Advise on the necessary content and structural changes.
  • Suggest revisions to improve the story.

Line editing is concerned with the creative flow of the manuscript and focuses on the language: word choice, paragraph flow, and sentence structure.

Edits will improve the following:

  • Readability and consistency
  • Wordy sentences and repetition
  • Proper use of phrases
  • Lack of “show, don’t tell”
  • Inconsistent POV

Copy editing focuses on the technical aspects. It can be thought of as double-checking your manuscript for small errors before sending it off to publication (I advise that you do a round of copy editing before sending it to ARC readers).

Edits will improve the following:

  • Consistency in the style, formatting, and tone
  • Typos and errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and syntax
  • Fact-checking (historical dates, author’s quotes, titles, etc.)

A non-refundable 20% deposit is required to finalize booking a service. This deposit will go towards your overall cost of service.
